PowerVerde Inc. will soon begin manufacturing totally green electrical power generation systems using a patented technology that has been in development since 2001. These new systems will never burn fossil fuels and the soon to be mandated savings in global greenhouse emissions are considerable. The mere existence and universal understanding of phrases and terms like; Green power, Fossil Fuel Independence, Renewable Power, Environmentally Friendly, Carbon Neutral and Zero Emissions underscores the desire and determination that world governments and their citizens have to develop non-polluting electric generation technology.
NBC News affiliates in Denver and Phoenix ran this story
Alpha Testing PowerVerde, Inc’s 25/50 KW ORC Power System
PowerVerde’s 25/50 KW ORC Power system, designed to create up to 50 kilo watts of AC electricity, operated flawlessly for several hours, maintaining 12.5 KW during an internal alpha test. PowerVerde’s next alpha test will be 25 KW. Ultimately the system will be tested to produce 50 KW.
Company Objectives:
Produce megawatts of electric power by recovering waste heat energy or utilizing low grade solar, while producing no carbon emissions or waste stream by products.
Mass produce and market low cost, completely green electric renewable power systems, using heat recovery/co-generation, low grade heat, and waste energy opportunities.
Create new high skill jobs in the United States in the administrative, engineering, technical, manufacturing, maintenance and related fields.
Potential Benefits
The PowerVerde heat recovery/co-generation technology may ultimately reduce the amount of crude oil imported into the United States. By increasing the efficiency of diesel electric generators, in all applications by 30% to 50% means less diesel oil will be consumed, thereby reducing the US dependencies on imported oil.
PowerVerde Gas Pressure Motor – Real Renewable Power
There are very few renewable power systems that operate in 500Kw or less range. PowerVerde’s products are unique in that they are highly efficient, in fact tests have shown that the Liberator waste heat recovery system is a paradigm shift in efficiency. PowerVerde believes this system may be as much as 5 to 10 times more efficient than any known competitor. The Gas Pressure Motor (GPM) used in the NG pipeline applications as well as our Gas Expansion Motor (GEM) does not require the use of fossil fuel. The first system only utilizes the wasted pressure at city gates along the extensive NG pipeline network and the second operates on waste heat, solar heat, geothermal heat or biomass
Natural Gas (NG) Pipeline Infrastructure worldwide could benefit from PowerVerde Inc.’s patented Gas Pressure Motor that uses wasted pressure created by transmitting large quantities of NG over long distances and then dropping the pressure for distribution to end use customers. The system is only powered by the pressure of the NG and does not use any gas itself nor is there any combustion. The NG enters the intake side of the system and exits the exhaust side and continues downstream. The true renewable electrical power is clean with zero waste stream byproducts. The system operates 24/7 and requires no large tracts of land unlike solar voltaic or wind generators.
Commercialization and Market Acceptance
The PowerVerde GPM and GEM power systems have gone through several design iterations and the current designs are being tested through a series of rigorous procedures making sure the product is reliable over many years of operation and can withstand the pressures and possible corrosion associated with natural gas or other working fluids.
PowerVerde will commercialize their renewable power products by supplying them to end-use companies, such as NG pipeline operations, solar collector farms, co-generation power applications, and other low grade waste heat recovery businesses.
The systems can be produced and installed for less than $2-$3 dollars per watt. This is far less than the typical windmill or photovoltaic devices on the market today and specifically the GPM and the waste heat or solar applications produce electric power 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, not only when the sun shines or the wind blows. At this low dollar per watt cost, the systems have a payback period of about 3 or less years assuming a rate of $0.10 per KW-HR.
Qualifications and Resources
PowerVerde Inc. is a publicly traded company (PWVI). The company has been able to raise capital in the public capital markets to support the research and development of the systems to date. In addition, several of the investors could also be considered for distribution contracts as they own corporations that are involved with oil related infrastructure and gas pipeline operations.
The management of PowerVerde understands the key drivers in the small to medium size power generation systems, and the role they play.
PowerVerde operates its manufacturing out of machine and assembly shops in Phoenix, AZ and Arlington, WA. If demand for the renewable power products became great, both facilities have expansion options that can be executed in short order, and contingency plans for that eventuality are being considered. Manufacturing opportunities may also be farmed out to other specialty foundries or machine shops nationwide.
PowerVerde Non-Electrical Applications
PowerVerde, Inc. is known for proprietary renewable electric power generation systems and specifically their 50Kw waste heat recovery unit, the most efficient thermal pressure driven system ever demonstrated. PowerVerde has pioneered an Organic Pressure Driven Cycle or “OPDC” that may help revolutionize mechanical motion. The primary driver portion of this system, often referred to as the engine or motor, is responsible for turning low grade heat into mechanical energy. This system described above adds a generator head thus making electricity from heat–any waste heat including solar.
This process has zero combustion, zero carbon footprint and zero waste stream byproducts.
This pressure driven motor or primary driver could itself be fashioned as a pump or even connected to a separate pump system. In effect heat, not an electric motor or grid electricity, would be necessary to maintain pumping action. This technology could simplify many applications by obviating the need for electrical circuits, rotors, and stators etc. that generally need a protected dry environment free from contamination. This heat driven technology is inherently more simple and efficient than either grid electricity components or even exogenous back-up emergency generator safeguards.
The recent earthquake and tsunami affecting Japan makes a poignant example.
Had the TEPCO owned Fukushima nuclear power plant had as their primary water cooling pumps, a PowerVerde style thermal pumping system, the earthquake and resulting electric grid failure would not have compromised their cooling system.
As this situation escalated and the emergency secondary power systems were activated it became clear that fuel contamination and water damage to the generators had compromised the back-up safety system. Apparently there was no tertiary back -up like a PowerVerde waste heat driven pump.
PowerVerde renewable power style pumps require no electricity. This system could operate completely submerged and would not become susceptible to electric shorts or liquid contamination. In this specific application (nuclear reactors) heat is always present and would be used as a byproduct fuel. In a sense, the nuclear plants cooling system operates for free. Should a reactor or related structure become damaged the actual problem posed-heat- is the very fuel needed to keep the cooling systems functional.
This style system should be evaluated not only as a primary solution, but obviously as a back-up emergency system for reactors everywhere.
